Amy and I have run into some trouble while navigating Historical Newspapers and American Periodicals Series on the new ProQuest platform. I'm compiling a comprehensive list of problems to give Mary Ellen. If you have a question or see a problem in the new platform, post a comment here and I'll add it to the list.
I can tell you that as of Friday, Jan 14, off-campus access to Historical Newspapers and American Periodicals is not working.

I was able to log in and search APS and HNYT today, 1/16/11. What kind of error message did you receive?
ReplyDeleteWhat I reported to Proquest today is:
- We are not able to search by publication name in APS.
- We are not able to browse publication in APS
- We are not able to switch between databases or select multiple databases.
Although some of these problems seem to be occuring from off campus, I'm not sure what proxy problems would result in these kinds of errors. This isn't something I've seen before, but hopefully, in trouble-shooting the problem, we will find a solution.
What I reported to Serials Solutions is that links from Journal Locator to APS journals do not go to the journal, but to the multi-database landing page. I created a custom url in Journal Locator on Friday, but apparently, this did not do the trick.
Thanks for reporting these errors. ~Mary Ellen
"We are not able to switch between databases or select multiple databases." - that only happens off-campus, when this message is displayed:
ReplyDelete"The page at http://search.proquest.com.ezproxy.mtsu.edu/americanperiodicals/publication/34950/citation/12CE82D2CDCD40761E/392?accountid=4886 says:
Error communicating with the server"
Thanks. Proquest did try a possible fix this weekend, but I'm at home now and see that it's still not working from off-campus. I'll have to put an alert message on LibData until their platform developers can fix this.
